Dead DOMA

An excerpt from my piece "the Angry Poet":

"I’m not an angry poet
Even though some people want to tell you
who you are allowed to love…
... Are you kidding me?!? Proposition 8 was all about hate
2 people who you don’t even know
want to go somewhere they’ve never been allowed to go
but cannot because your God told them so
Land of the free and this is your response
never mind the fact
that you can’t control what the heart wants,
You see, they threatened the sanctity of "his" idea of marriage
he said what you are doing is a radical act
Imagine that
unable to wed because of someone else’s head
instead of a couple’s heart
Self righteous strangers trying to keep your love apart
I think telling someone else who they can and can't marry
based on what YOU believe
is a far more radical act
It makes me want to kick your bible in the balls
But
I’m not an angry poet"

Okay so tentatively I have the 3 dates, times and places for my 2013 Buffalo Infringement Festival performances: I am going to be performing different pieces at each show, so if you were to go to all 3, it would be around 20 different pieces. More info coming soon. Can you dig it?

The Road to Infringement! (6-14-13)

The 2013 Buffalo Infringement Festival begins Thursday July 25th and runs for 11 days! I will be performing for the 3rd straight year! That's right, 3 shows, each 30 minutes and no repeat pieces! To get ready for the challenge I've been doing some recent and older pieces everywhere I can and the last 2 nights some very fun stuff happened. I won not one but my FIRST two poetry slams on back to back nights no less! So now I am a 2-time Pure Ink Poetry Slam Winner! Makes my future appearances sound more impressive, no?

Anyway since we are still 6 weeks away from the festival, you can see me working out the kinks and preparing for those shows every Wednesday at Ashker's Juice Bar on Elmwood Ave. The open mic runs from 7:30-10pm. I'll also post more information about the July edition of the Pure Ink Poetry Slam as we get closer to the date (July 10) plus any other poetry appearances. That's what's up!

"8 Days in Hell"... for Bryan

I lost my brother Bryan on June 5th, 2012. He was the guy who introduced me to so many things. He took me to my first concert (AC/DC-1984), my first movie (Ghostbusters), my first Sabres game, Bills game, WWE show, etc. Growing up he was the coolest guy I knew. I always wanted to be like him. In the end when I saw the impact he's had on family, friends and others, well... I still wanna be like him.

The 2013 Buffalo Infringement Festival runs from July 25th through August 4th this summer and for the 3rd straight year I will be performing my show "Young Hearts and Old Minds". The big difference is that this year I will be doing 3 separate shows instead of just 1. That means different pieces at each show, no repeats!
